In class, I learned about the subjunctive mood. It's a verb that expresses a wish, a desire, or a condition that takes about a fact. So to use this, you need to replace "was" with "were" and "will" with "would." So instead of saying, "I wish I was a doctor." you would say, "I wish I were a doctor." The same rule applies to a sentence if you were contracting to a fact like: "If I were ("was" was switched to "were") a doctor, I would save lives." The rule can apply to recomend or demand after "that" and for uncertainty after "if" or "whether." Sentences that demand after that sound like pirate talk because it uses a name or you then "be" after that. An example of demanding after that is, "I must insist that Charlie be coming to the movies with us." sound ridiculous, but it applies to the rules of grammar. Unless if it actually is correct grammar but it just sound weird. The recommendation looks like it removes a word that make the sentence whole like: "She recomended that Dave take the medicine daily." Uncertainty is the same thing as demand after that, but it's comparing two things to the subject, followed by an independent clause. Again, it sounds like pirate talk because of the weird placement for "be." An example for this is: Whether it be real or not, it's still my favorite animal." Sometimes, the subjunctive mood makes sense when you think about. But sometimes not because of the words.

Photos have been taken of the Central United States being flooded, the flood have killed several people. Including a 10-year-old child who tried to climb a fence to avoid the flood, but he was swept away. The flood has taken impact on highways like Interstate 44 and Highway 141 and the Meramec River rose 46 feet because of the flood. Rivers will overflow because of the floodHouses have been submerged in the water and only roves of the houses are visible. To prevent this, some use sand bags to protect their homes. A man's house was flooded and was able to save most of his property, his second floor is still visible. Everyone is trying their best to live as Mississippi is not cleared up yet. The next target is Illinois and the water levels are expected to rise up to 48 feet. Forecasters are worried about the heavy rain fall that is going to occur. Boats are prepared for rescue and police are ready to block roads when the flood happens. Some people have been trapped in their homes because of the flood and it's very difficult to escape from. People are hoping they will stay safe and are well prepared for the flood. They are terrified but still filled with confidence. What I think about this is that it's terrifying for being in a situation like this. I would always be prepared and stay confident that everyone and I will survive the flood, I have hope for the people experiencing the flood.
In class, I learned about simple, progressive and perfect verbs. Simple tenses deal with present, past and future tenses. Some examples of these simple verbs are is eating, ate and will eat. Progressive verbs are almost the same thing as simple verbs, but you you just need to add -ing, "is" for present progressive verbs, "was" for past progressive verbs and "will be" for future progressive verbs. It signifies something that is in progress, something that was in progress and something that will be in progress. Some examples of progressive verbs are "'He is playing with his friends', 'He was playing with his friends', and 'He will be playing with his friends.'" It's a little confusing to compare simple verbs and progressive verbs since they both deal with the present, past and future. Perfect tense verbs are a form of "have" and the past participle of the main verb. Again, this can be confused with simple and progressive verbs because they deal with with present, past and future tenses. But perfect verbs deal more with past tenses since it's more on "have" verbs. Some examples of progressive verbs are, "'Jessica has found her bracelet', 'Jessica had found her bracelet', and 'Jessica will have found her bracelet.'" Future perfect tenses sound weird when it is said, but it's the rules of future perfect tenses. You just add "has" to present perfect tenses, "had" to past perfect tenses and "will have" to future present tenses. These verbs are simple to learn, you just need to add words and make the verbs present, past and future tense.
In class, I learned about linking verbs. These kinds of verbs do not express action, but links a subject to a subject complement. Some examples of linking verbs are am, are is, will be, was, been, the list is endless. The subject complement comes after the linking verb and is either short or long. For example, "The strawberry was delicious." Was is the linking verb that links the subject and the subject complement. In some cases, linking verbs can express an action. They consist of the five senses like, appear, smell, sound, feel and taste. But there are more linking verbs that can be expressed as actions. For example, "I tasted the strawberry." Tasted is the linking verb and also the action verb. It's easy to learn linking verbs when you know where the subject is, the linking verb, and the subject complement. It's used everyday and is used in almost every sentence spoken. Sometimes there is a comma used in a sentence and then it's hard to identify the linking verb, but you can find it after the comma. Sometimes you can confuse them with transitive and intransitive verbs, but you can find them after the transitive or intransitive verbs. What I think about linking verbs is that they are easy to learn and identify. It's all about finding where to find it, after the subject and before the subject complement. Everyone uses them and it completes the sentence. Once, you got the hang of linking verbs., it's going to be a breeze.
Recent news claims that a 220 pound coin worth $1 million U.S. dollars has been stolen from Berlin’s Bode Museum. Police found evidence that the thieves broke in brim the back window, crept into the coin exhibit and possibly dragged it across the floor. Luckily, it was the only coin to be stolen and the rest of the coins were remained untouched. They found the broken window from the back of the museum and also found a ladder which is what they used to climb up into the level where the coin exhibit is.The bullet-proof glass container wasn't enough to stop the thieves from taking the coin. It was found shattered very badlyThere is no evidence that no one besides the thieves have witnessed the event. The coin is named the Big Maple Leaf with a picture of the Queen and three maple leaves. It's been in the Berlin’s Bode Museum ever since 2010. The coin was made in 2007 and is 99.999% gold that is more than an inch thick with a diameter of 20 inches. What I think about this is that this coin is worth a fortune if you get you hand on it, or possibly can. The thieves should be caught after stealing such an expensive coin. It's made out of gold and costs $1 million dollars that amazes me and also catches my attention. The coin isn't actually $1 million dollars, but it costs $4.5 million dollars. It's more reasonable to say that it's $1 million dollars
In class, I learned about transitive and intransitive verbs. Transitive verbs are the doers that receive an action in the sentence and have a direct object. For example, "He collected cards." the verb "collected" is followed by the noun "cards." The transitive verb always has to be followed by a noun to form the direct object. In other words, the doer receives an action to complete the sentence. But what if the transitive verb isn't followed by a noun. That is called a intransitive verb. It usually sounds complete, but it isn't without the noun. For example, "He drank." the intransitive verb isn't followed by a noun. Intransitive verbs also don't have a direct object in it. Sometimes, a intransitive verb used in a sentence can be often confused for transitive verbs. They are used everyday and you use them too. What I think about transitive and intransitive verbs is that they help with grammar and help correct whatever is wrong your sentence. It helps with everything in a sentence to fully complete it. I would use it whenever I am writing a a story to help the reader fully understand what the character is doing or experiencing during the event. Personally, I would use them often for better writing in ELA. I recommend others to start using transitive and intransitive verbs more often in their stories or writing, whichever they are doing. They are all about the doers and the receivers in the sentence, it might help you one day.
Recent news claims that astronomers have discovered 7 earth-sized planets orbiting the same star like our solar system 40 light years away. It's not so far away, yet it will take millions of years to get to the TRAPPIST-1 solar system. It was announced official at NASA headquarters that having the same size as earth and having the right temperatures, the planets could have water and possible life there. The sun is not as big as our star because it is an ultracool dwarf star named TRAPPIST-1. Three planets are capable for human-kind living on them, they are called TRAPPIST-1e, f and g and can possibly have oceans. Life can form in different ways in those planets, it's because of the gases that are possibly on the planet. Their orbits take about one and a half to 13 earth days. If you were to stand on one of the planets, you could receive 200 times less light from the sun. Luckily though, you would still receive energy since the sun is very close. Since the planets are so close, you can see them at any time of the day. These planets have some alike looks to our planets, but they are different. What I think about this discovery is that it's both amazing and extraordinary. We never knew that there have been more planets for us to possibly live on when Earth goes haywire. Even though it's going to take a long time, it would be still worth it just to see new planets for us to take our first steps on.
In class, I learned about pronouns. Pronouns are basically nouns, but they take the place of other nouns. For example, is a name is used twice, we can replace it with a pronoun that agrees with the person, number, and gender. But there are a lot of other pronouns. They can be relative, demonstrative, indefinite, interrogative, intensive, reflexive, possessive, the list goes on. Relative pronouns talk about the subject in the sentence. Some words are that, which, who and whom. Demonstrative pronouns relate to an object in a certain distance like this, these, that and those. Indefinite pronouns talk about nouns that do not have a name like anybody, anyone, both, and all. Reflexive pronouns end in -selves or -self. these pro nouns can include, ourselves, yourself, herself, himself, themselves, etc. Possessive pronouns relate to nouns that have ownership over something like his, her, its, their, and our. Interrogative pronouns are nouns that ask questions about a noun. Like: What time is it? Who stole my wallet? To whom will you give that card to? Which book will you take? Whose lunch bag is this? Pronouns are used daily and are very important to grammar. It gives more taste to a boring sentence and makes it flow easier. I think it's easy to learn and will be very useful to writers. It gives a push towards attention in a sentence and makes a sentence stand out. So i think pronouns are amazing and both easy and fun to learn about.
In class, I learnt about Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. They are mostly used in ads, but we also use them too. Ethos is used to persuade the person to get what the authors wants them to get. It brings up a topic and makes you think about it. In greek, it means "character. The word ethic comes from the word Ethos. Some words that have this greek root word are ethic, ethical, etc. Pathos is used to give you an emotional feeling about the topic. They are used in ads or videos that talk about animal abuse, poverty, etc. Some feelings it gives is humor, joy, sadness, or greed. To set off the mood, it tells stories about how it starts. It's the greek word for two words: "suffering" and "experience." Some words that use this word are empathy and pathetic. Logos is used to give facts and history. it's mainly gives logic to the person. It's also used to help Ethos to persuade the person better. It's greek meaning is" "word" but mainly means "the word or that by which the inward thought is expressed." the word "logic" is used from logos. What I think about this is that every part has it's purpose in an ad to get the person's attention to an ad and is very useful. Every ad and video doesn't have a purpose without Ethos, Pathos, Logos and a topic. Remember to use these when you want so come up with a good ad or video.
In the town of Havana, Cuba, there is a small, yet big business called "A Mi Manera" which means "my way". The people who work in the business are Marta Castaeda and her husband and have a very creative way to deliver pizza from the roof, where her kitchen is, to the customers on the ground who order their pizza. Their contents of the pizza including the dough and sauce is home-made and very well made. After they are done making the pizza, they put it on a plate with paper that is attached to a rope to send the pizza down. But what is the reason for this you may ask? Marta gets tired going all the way down to deliver the pizza, and going back up. So they thought outside the box, and I mean literally outside the box. It's sounds silly, but it's very creative and very-well thought out. But there can be bad sides to it. One day, Marta was dropping the pizza from above, when there was a gust of wind which blew the pizza into the customer's face. She tried to warn him, but it was too late. Marta says she does things while laughing because it lights up the day and a laughter is a true treasure. They also say that people al over the world come to eat their pizzas and I think that having a business like that must be extraordinary. I think A Mi Manera is amazing and i would want to visit anytime. Note: I couldn't find a picture from the video so I searched up images of a pizza.
